Preface: Throughout my over 40 year flying career, I’ve had numerous incidents, learned many lessons, and had more fun than I can fully describe. I have recounted these tales numerous times in various settings and have often been told to put my stories to paper. In May of 2018, one of my sons asked me to do just that, leading to the formal start of my work on this project.
This book has been a multi-year work in progress, finally gaining more traction when my flying career came to an unexpected but successful conclusion in March of 2020. The stories included in this book span from my first flight in 1966 as a six year old, British Overseas Airways Corporation passenger til the conclusion of my military service in 1997 as an F-15 Fighter Pilot.
Disclaimer: As with anyone recounting a story to friends and family, those enclosed are of my best recollection. There are places where I did exercise a bit of creative license. Some names and places have been changed to protect the privacy of those referenced. Not every story paints all those involved in a favorable light, myself included, however it was never my intent to harm anyone. I learned from my screw ups and I hope others did as well. For some of these events, I could have spent years researching the specifics. In the cases where I determined it didn’t detract from the story line, I didn’t bother.
